Practical information

A visit to Portlantis begins with thorough preparation.

Opening times 

Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00–17:00 hours. 

Portlantis is also open from 10:00–17:00 hours during most holidays. This applies to: Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, Liberation Day (May 5th), Ascension Day, Whit Sunday and Whit Monday and Boxing Day. 

Portlantis is closed on New Year’s Day, King’s Day (Dutch holiday – April 27th) and Christmas Day.

Payments

In PortlaPortlantis only accepts payment with debit or credit cards. 

Parking and charging points 

Parking is free for visitors to Portlantis. There are 10 charging stations that can be activated with public charging cards. Portlantis has 5 parking spaces for visitors with limited mobility. 

Bags, coats and umbrellas

Lockers are available on the ground and 4th floors for safe storage of coats and bags so you can stroll through Portlantis at your leisure. 

Pets

Dogs are not allowed in Portlantis or aboard the tour boat/bus, with the exception of assistance dogs.

Babies & small children

A changing station is available in the disabled toilets on the ground floor and fourth floor. You may bring your stroller. On the ground floor, opposite the café, there is space to park baby carriages and strollers if you do not want to take them into the exhibition.

Accessibility

Portlantis is situated on the outer edge of Maasvlakte 2 along the dunes and the beach. Portlantis is easily accessible by car. All destinations in the port area have their own number. These port numbers are indicated on the signs. For Portlantis, follow port number 8800-9000. 

By car

From Amsterdam/The Hague/Rotterdam/Utrecht 
From these directions, via Kleinpolderplein, follow the A20 toward Hoek van Holland. At the Kethelplein, take the Benelux Tunnel (A4) towards Europoort. After Beneluxplein and the Botlek Tunnel (A15), follow port numbers 8800-9000. The A15 turns into the N15. Once on the Maasvlakte, follow the ‘Portlantis’ signs. 

From Gorinchem 
After the Noord Tunnel, head toward Europoort (A15) via the Ridderkerk junction. After Beneluxplein and the Botlek Tunnel (A15), follow port numbers 8800-9000. The A15 turns into the N15. Once on the Maasvlakte, follow the ‘Portlantis’ signs 

From Breda/Dordrecht 
After the Drecht Tunnel, head toward Europoort (A15) via the Ridderkerk junction. After Beneluxplein and the Botlek Tunnel (A15), follow port numbers 8800-9000. The A15 turns into the N15. Once on the Maasvlakte, follow the ‘Portlantis’ signs

By bike 

The port area is part of the network of cycle routes. Use this network to easily put together your own bike tour. You simply cycle from node to node using the numbered signs. One of the nodes is located at Portlantis. Handy to note: here you’ll find tools for minor repairs and options for charging your electric bike’s battery.

Hoeksveer Ferry

You can get to Portlantis from Hoek van Holland via the Hoeksveer ferry. From April to September, this ferry takes you (and your bike, if needed) to Maasvlakte 2 in under an hour. Enjoy views of cargo ships along the way, and maybe even some seals if you’re lucky! In Hoek van Holland, you can board the ferry at Berghaven. The 2025 service sails to Prinses Margriethaven, where you can continue your journey to Portlantis by bike or shuttle. Buy your tickets for both the ferry and shuttle from Hoeksveer.

It’s easy to get to Hoek van Holland via RET Metro Line B, with connections to Rotterdam city centre, Schiedam, Vlaardingen, and Maassluis.

Café and restaurant freely accessible 

Recharge your own battery? Then stop in at our café on the ground floor or restaurant on the 4th floor. Enjoy some coffee and cake or a tasty lunch or a quick snack. It is not permitted to consume your own refreshments. The café, restaurant and panoramic deck are accessible without an admission ticket.
