Explore the port, discover your future!

The port of Rotterdam is the largest and most state-of-the-art port in Europe. Every day, 193,000 people work here in the most diverse sectors and in all kinds of different and surprising professions. The port of Rotterdam offers a wide array of job opportunities.

This field-trip programme gives pupils the opportunity to explore the port and learn about various occupations here. So it perfectly suits the Dutch ‘LOB’ system of Career Orientation & Guidance.

Programme

The programme consists of one field trip and one preparatory lesson at school, given during a mentor hour or LOB session, for example. Several options exist for the field trip, based on availability:

  • Touring the 42 km long port of Rotterdam, a unique experience accompanied by a guide.
  • Visiting companies: some 50 port companies open their doors and give pupils a look behind the scenes.
  • Taking a boat trip: from the water, pupils explore Maasvlakte 2, the youngest and most advanced port area. Accompanied by a guide, they sail past the immense container ships and experience the activity at the terminals.
  • Lunch: lunch can be provided by arrangement.

For schools using NPRZ's Bridge programme, this field trip is free of charge.
