The port for students
What do children and young people from the Rijnmond region know about the port of Rotterdam, the international port that's right around the corner? More often than not: far too little! With especially developed teaching material, primary and secondary school students get to know about the port in an educational and fun way.
Together with partners, the Port of Rotterdam Authority gets children acquainted with the port in a playful way. We try to get them interested with positive incentives and good stories. Through educational material and projects, children learn about the port and the opportunities it offers. But also secondary education is a good time to make young people aware of the opportunities in the port through educational material, since at that stage they will choose their next step which can be decisive for the rest of their careers. View the options for primary and secondary education below.

Fun and educational activities
Port Rangers
With the Port Rangers teaching material pupils from groups 6 and 7 of primary schools in Rotterdam can engage in various activities related to the port of Rotterdam. Take the class on a quest with Wasabi the sturgeon and discover the port of Rotterdam. Or get the pupils acquainted with difficult 'port words' during the Language Trip. Participation is free of charge.
Port Discovery
The Port Discovery teaching material has been designed for students in the upper grades of intermediate preparatory vocational education, secondary education and pre-university education. Port Discovery is all about the port of Rotterdam and the many opportunities to work there. The course material has been developed by the Educational Information Centre Mainport Rotterdam (EIC) to acquaint students with the versatile and dynamic port of Rotterdam. The introductory lesson and the subject-specific lessons can be used in preparation for an excursion to the port of Rotterdam.
Professor Splash
In the Maritime Museum, children, together with Professor Splash, experience the influence of the maritime world on our daily lives. The children take a dive into contemporary exhibitions or go to work themselves in the dynamic museum port. The educational programmes of the Maritime Museum offer fun as well as instructive lessons for any group.
Kids Marina
Kids Marina is a miniature world port. At Kids Marina, children experience the ultimate port feeling. As the captain of a police boat, a tug boat or even a patrol vessel of the Port Authority, they gain insight into the port, its functions and vessels while sailing through the port. Kids Marina is located in the centre of Rotterdam at Grotekerkplein behind the Laurens Church.
