Rozenburg

11 May 2021
How can we help you?

Rozenburg is an area where port, industry and nature go hand in hand. The village has a beautiful green belt that acts as a visual barrier, obscuring surrounding industry. The Landtong, a peninsula between the Calandkanaal and the Nieuwe Waterweg, is part of this green belt.

Visitors to the Landtong really enjoy the nature in this nine-kilometre-long area. A place where residents and visitors meet, enjoy leisure activities, experience nature and drink in the view of large seagoing vessels.

Port development

The port area is always in development. The port of Rotterdam Authority develops on the basis of three spearheads.

District hub

Curious about developments in the port? Or do you have questions about the port, comments or ideas you want to discuss, or would you like to know more about the port’s different functions? Then come to the community centre and join us in a discussion. You’ll find us in the library every second Friday of the month from 12:00 to 14:00 hours.

Redevelopment of Scheurhaven

The Scheurhaven towards the end of the Rozenburg peninsula offers space to various maritime service providers. Important partners who ensure that the port runs like clockwork. The current berths for port towage services in the Scheurhaven are very outdated. Furthermore, the port is too small. That is why we are deepening and redeveloping the Scheurhaven.

Renovation of the Rozenburg Lock

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is renovating the Rozenburg Lock. The first phase of the renovation is complete. The lock has been fitted with a new set of fender piles on the north side. Additionally, the new port section of the Betuwe Route now has extra protection from shipping. The total renovation is expected to be completed in 2026.

Educational Information Centre moves

The Port Authority is currently realizing Portlantis on the Maasvlakte. The Educational Information Centre near Rozenburg (EIC) is moving to Portlantis. The EIC building is for sale.

Footpath

The entire area around Theemsweg route near Rozenburg has been beautifully landscaped. A footpath under the viaduct runs along varied slopes, where orchids are given room to grow and the rich meadows attract insects and thus more birds.

Accessibility

Various development projects are currently under construction around Rozenburg.

Blankenburg connection

Rijkswaterstaat is realizing the Blankenburg Link Road. Final construction work is being carried out in March, April and May 2025 to connect the A15 to the A24

Work on the A15

The A15 highway is an important connection between the port and industrial area of Rotterdam and the European hinterland. Rijkswaterstaat is working on improving accessibility. To realize this, Rijkswaterstaat is working daily on the construction and maintenance of our road network. This can lead to traffic disruption, often of a temporary nature.

Work on the Droespolderdijk

Gasunie has been commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs to construct a hydrogen pipeline. This pipeline route runs from the Maasvlakte to the Oude Maas and passes Rozenburg along the Droespolderweg. The pipeline will soon be part of the Rotterdam Hydrogen Network, which will eventually be connected to the national and international hydrogen networks. Various activities on Droespolderweg are planned for this purpose.

Work on the Caland Bridge

The Caland Bridge was used by both road and rail traffic. The latter is no longer necessary, and therefore the rail track on the bridge is to be dismantled. The bridge also needs to be resurfaced and the electromechanical systems replaced. The works are provisionally scheduled for 2028 and 2029. Details about this are not yet known.

Work on the Spijkenisse Bridge

Rijkswaterstaat will be carrying out work on the Spijkenisse Bridge, between Spijkenisse and Hoogvliet, until the end of 2025. To be able to work safely, it is necessary to regularly close the bridge to vehicular, bicycle, moped and pedestrian traffic.
