Lifecycle-extending maintenance on Vondelingenweg

How can we help you?

The Vondelingenweg is the main access and connecting road to the Waalhaven and Eemhaven, Vondelingenplaat, Port Park Pernis, Distripark Eemhaven, and the residential areas of Pernis and Hoogvliet. It also serves as an emergency route for the A15 motorway. Due to heavy use, the road has increasingly required repairs. For this reason, major maintenance is being carried out on the Vondelingenweg, including its viaducts, intersections and several slip roads.

The works will commence in April and are scheduled to continue until October 2025. Through this maintenance, the Port Authority aims to enhance traffic safety and ensure the accessibility of the surrounding area.

What is going to happen?

We will renew the road surface on the Vondelingenweg, starting from the intersection with Petroleumweg to the transition from concrete slabs to asphalt at the Reeweg viaduct. In addition, five viaducts (Oudeland viaduct, Groenedijk viaduct, Gadering viaduct, Oud Pernisseweg viaduct and Vondelingen viaduct) will be renovated. The cycle path located north of the Vondelingenweg will also be upgraded, and traffic control installations (VRIs) will be implemented. Alongside resurfacing, we will also replace, where necessary, central reservations, road furniture, verges, and other infrastructure assets.

When will it happen?

The work will be carried out in phases according to the following schedule:

Oud Pernisseweg week 14 to 19

Weekend: Friday 20:00 – Monday 06:00

This phase includes six weekend closures, during which Oud Pernisseweg will be completely closed, except for emergency and rescue services. A diversion via Butaanweg will be set up to maintain access to Pernis during the closures.

Seattleweg/A4 slip road week 20

Weekend: Friday 20:00 – Monday 06:00

Works on Seattleweg and the A4 slip road will be completed in a single full weekend closure. Emergency and rescue services will have unrestricted access during the closure.

Friday week 28 – Friday week 33; Friday 20:00 – Friday 17:00

Works on the southbound carriageway of the Vondelingenweg will be carried out over five weeks with 8-hour workdays. To minimise disruption, some works will occur during the quieter holiday period in 2025. During this time, there will be no west-to-east traffic on the southbound carriageway, which will be fully closed except for emergency services and bus route 69. East-to-west traffic will remain possible on the northbound carriageway.

Traffic measures and accessibility

The works will result in disruptions due to closures. However, we will ensure that Pernis and the surrounding areas remain accessible through the use of diversion routes. Different traffic measures will apply to each phase. Two weeks before the start of each phase, closures will be announced via signs. During the works, various diversions will be clearly signposted and added to navigation apps. We strongly advise following the designated diversion routes. Traffic controllers will be present at each closure to manage the flow of traffic and ensure emergency and rescue services have unobstructed access so they can reach their destinations on time. For your safety and that of others, we kindly ask that you do not follow emergency vehicles into the work zone.
