Emergency systems for critical functions
Certain on-site systems are crucial for a company’s business processes. But the delivery of products can also be vital.
You want to make sure that flooding will not stop your company delivering vital functions or products and prevent the shutdown of crucial systems and business processes. So you should arrange for emergency systems on your own site. This puts you in a better position to manage a controlled shutdown and resume operations later.
• Applicable to buildings, utilities, factories and installations;
• Crisis management;
• Permanent and temporary measure;
• Substantial investment;
• Prevents economic and environmental damage;
• Applicable at flood depths starting at approx. 50 cm.
In the event of a flood, suppliers of vital facilities and products may suffer damage. By arranging for emergency systems on your own site, you can maintain control over your own business processes. Examples may include generators for emergency power (and the fuel they require). You can establish emergency stocks of nitrogen for storage tank blanketing. It is best to locate these emergency systems where there is no flood risk.
Examples of emergency systems:
• The installation of an emergency power supply to manage any power cut and proceed with a controlled shutdown;
• Locating the most critical (and/or hazardous) substances/products in safe places;
• Purchase nitrogen cylinders for storage tank blanketing;
• Ensure there is enough pumping capacity to fill empty tanks so they will not float.
