Emergency flood barriers
Emergency flood barriers are temporary barriers that can be installed if there is a flood threat to keep water away from certain areas or buildings.
• Always applicable;
• Spatial adaptive measure and crisis management;
• Temporary measure;
• Substantial investment;
• Prevents economic and environmental damage, and casualties;
• Applicable at all flood depths.
In addition to sandbags, innovative mobile barriers are available for the rapid construction of a temporary flood defence. Building an emergency barrier requires fast and efficient mobilisation and organisation for the construction, closing and monitoring of the barrier.
Enough time, materials and capacity are needed to set up an emergency flood barrier before a flood. A detailed protocol and frequent drills are required for this purpose. You can make your own company arrangements to install emergency barriers but there are also options for outsourcing. You should do this in good time because these suppliers will be very busy when there is a threat of flooding.
