Avoid loading pits in warehouses
Truck loading bays are typically below the floor level. This makes it possible to load or unload goods from the truck at that level.
- Applicable to buildings;
- Spatial adaptation;
- Permanent measure;
- Substantial investment;
- Prevents economic damage;
- Applicable at all flood depths.
However, this makes loading pits susceptible to flooding. Once they fill up, water will flow into the building through warehouse doors or small openings in the structure.
By building loading bays at the floor level instead as pits, you reduce the risk of inundation. Place goods in an elevated position on a raised floor near ground-level loading areas. That reduces the risk of damage to goods in a flood.
