Discover the port of Rotterdam
Want to get to know Europe’s largest and most state-of-the-art port? We’d love to tell you more about the extensive opportunities for discovering the port of Rotterdam, such as at the Port Pavilion information point in the centre of Rotterdam, where we give visitors the best tips for planning the perfect day out in the port.
Or come to the port itself, and visit information centre FutureLand, right in the middle of the newest port area, Maasvlakte 2. And something new is emerging: the construction of Portlantis is in full swing. This will be an interactive and multifaceted port experience centre on Maasvlakte 2
Rotterdam
Rotterdam is well known for its interesting museums, modern skyline and culinary and cultural hotspots. And it is of course also the largest port city in Europe! It’s precisely this combination that makes Rotterdam such an inspiring destination. Not just for a weekend, but definitely for longer stays too. There’s no shortage of experiences to be had!
Port Pavilion
Port Pavilion is where visitors to our port city find further information and inspiration for visiting the port itself and really getting to know it. The 11-metre long scale model with interactive photo projection gives you an overview of all cycle routes, viewing points, tours, attractions, beaches, nature reserves and recreational areas in and around the port. Six large screens move continually along the high wall, displaying the faces and contrasts – individually and communally – that make up and enrich the 40-kilometre long port area. Port Pavilion is the ideal starting point for getting to know Rotterdam better. Enthusiastic HavenHosts help you put together the perfect port excursion. You’ll find Port Pavilion in the centre of Rotterdam just 10 minutes walk from culinary hotspot De Markthal.
FutureLand
Some 42 kilometres from Rotterdam centre, the world’s largest ships sail to and from Maasvlakte 2. Often with more than 20,000 containers on board. The information centre introduces you to the port of today and the future and offers you a unique view of the most modern container terminals and offshore companies. Get to experience the hustle and bustle up close and in person on board our boat or bus. Our expert guides will not skip a single detail in their live commentary. In short, at FutureLand you’ll really get to know the port of Rotterdam!
Portlantis: port experience centre under construction
The construction of Portlantis is currently in full swing. Portlantis will become a unique interactive experience centre and meeting place in the middle of the port. Here you will discover the complex and dynamic world of Europe’s largest and most state-of-the-art port. Expand your understanding of the port’s significance for society, our economy, the living environment and yourself. It shows what the future could look like, reveals ongoing innovations and exciting developments, and explains major changes, such as the energy transition and digitalisation, in an appealing and understandable way.
Here, too, you could hop on a bus or in a boat to get to know the port better. And how about coffee and cake, a quick lunch or sumptuous dinner with breathtaking views over the beach and port area? Don’t forget to take a look from the panorama deck too.
The striking building was designed by architects MVRDV, known for numerous world-leading projects and Rotterdam icons De Markthal and Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. The arrival of Portlantis marks the closure of FutureLand.
