In recent years, and particularly during recent dry summers, it has become clear that the supply of sufficient fresh water for our industries cannot always be taken for granted. Rising sea levels and low river discharges have led to increased saltwater intrusion.

This has an impact on companies that use fresh water from the Brielse Meer freshwater basin. The Water boards Hollandse Delta and Delfland, together with the Port of Rotterdam Authority are taking measures to protect and improve this freshwater system.
