Heat
The average temperature is increasing, and periods of heat last longer and longer. Increasing and prolonged heat can affect the port in several ways.
The infrastructure can be sensitive to this; it could create rail formation in asphalt, for instance. But industrial installations can also be sensitive to extreme heat. When designing or adapting infrastructure, the increase in heat should be taken into account.
Heat, combined with drought, can also affect the port's flora and fauna, such as nesting birds and vegetation. By including nature in the development of land and buildings, we can ensure that the port's nature and biodiversity are more resilient to extreme weather.
